Born in Copenhagen in 1919, Bjørn Wiinblad studied painting and illustration at the Royal Art Academy. With countless international exhibitions to his credit – from New York to Tokyo – Bjørn Wiinblad has done many assignments for Rosenthal over the past decades. Wiinblad was one of the most self-willed and consistent artists of the 20th century. He developed a style of his own, a style which is entirely independent of fashionable trends. His work finds expression in many different kinds of media, including porcelain and ceramic design, glassware, posters, graphic art, furniture, tapestries, wallpaper, textiles and book illustrations. For a theatre production of “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Karlsruhe in 1982 Bjørn Wiinblad designed not only the stage décor but also the costumes.
